The aim of the tournament was to first and foremost give school girls the opportunity to play football in a warm and friendly environment with girls from all over London and Europe competing.
There was also another aim – to identify players and give them opportunities to be referred to the Football Associations’ Discover My Talent’ programme ⚽ – creating a pathway for the girls to higher level football
Not only did we have schools from Brentford FC’s footprint boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow and Richmond in attendance. We also reached out further inviting schools from Panthers’ local area of Barnet with St James, St Michael, Compton and Mill Hill County getting involved
Some of the Barnet schools competing will have attended Panthers schools coaching sessions over the past few months and the hard work certainly paid off
The Deutch School London were also in attendance who – ironically – played Nørrebro United in the group stages. So Germany v Denmark girls playing at the tournament in the afternoon then Germany Denmark women playing at Brentford stadium just minutes walk from the tournament later in the evening
Players from Brentford FC Women also made an appearance at the tournament, taking part in a Q&A session with the girls before the knockout stages took place 🐝
The girls also got a chance to meet the UEFA mascots who passed through on their way down to the Denmark v Germany match
